A Virtual Japanese Sign Language Interpreter
NEP partnered with Jam3.Monks to revolutionize accessibility by creating a Japanese Sign Language (JSL) Concierge. NHK has been researching Japanese Sign Language (JSL) for years. In an effort to better serve the deaf community in Japan and meet their government mandates for accessibility, they are investing in technology that can make important news available to JSL speakers. The concept and solution was to create an application that could receive text input and output a sign language video performance. Introducing Kiki, a virtual human interpreter. As the world’s first highly realistic virtual human for sign language interpretation, Kiki through a web-app can generate full JSL dynamic interpretations from text input. Initial engagements have been used to generate sign language interpretation for museum exhibit guides, public announcements and more.
